Why I created a Facebook group for English speakers blocked in French speaking
If you’re learning French and find yourself saying:
- “I understand French, but I freeze when I have to speak,”
- “I know the words, but they don’t come out,”
- “I’m afraid to make mistakes or sound stupid,”
...you’re not alone.
As a French teacher and psychologist, I’ve met so many learners who carry not just the burden of language acquisition, but also deep emotional blocks: fear of judgment, perfectionism, past trauma related to learning, shame, or simply the anxiety of not being able to express who they really are in a foreign language.
This kind of block isn’t solved with more grammar drills. It requires something different.
It requires a safe space to feel, reflect, and gradually re-claim your voice. And this is exactly why I created the Facebook group:
The deeper problem behind speaking anxiety
Many learners reach an intermediate level and still feel stuck. They understand movies, follow podcasts, even write texts in French. But when they have to speak?
Silence. Blockage. Panic.
It’s not because they’re lazy or unmotivated. It’s because their voice in French has never felt safe to emerge. For many, language learning touches on identity, childhood wounds, or social fears. And the performance-oriented style of most programs can make this even worse.
As a psychologist, I know how essential it is to work with emotion, not against it.
As a teacher, I believe in slow, creative, and embodied learning.
This group brings both together.
And on a more personal note, I’ve experienced this too. I live in England, and for years I struggled to speak English with confidence — even though I understood everything. I know what it feels like to lose your voice in a foreign language. This group is the space I would have needed.
What happens inside the group?
This Facebook group is free and open to English speakers who understand French (A2 to B2 level) but feel blocked at the moment of speaking.
It’s a space where:
- You can write before you speak
- You can reflect on what holds you back
- You can connect with others who feel the same
- You can express your voice without pressure
Every week, I share:
- ✨ A gentle writing prompt (in English or French)
- ✨ A soft speaking challenge (optional)
- ✨ Book ideas, emotional reflections, and space to comment freely

You’re never forced to participate. Just reading is already a step.
How is it different from my other resources?
At the French Creative Academy, I offer several free tools to support learners:
- 📝 The French Writing Club: one prompt per week in French, with grammar and vocabulary tips, and the chance to post your text.
- 📲 The Telegram channel: daily mini-lessons and audio messages to stay connected to French every day.
- 💬 The Facebook group: an emotional and reflective space in English, focused on unlocking your spoken voice through writing.
Each space supports a different part of your journey. The Facebook group is for your inner voice, the one that needs permission to speak before performance.
Who is this for?
This group is for you if:
- You understand French but don’t dare to speak
- You feel anxious, ashamed, or blocked when it’s time to talk
- You want to take your time and reconnect with your voice gently
- You enjoy writing, reflection, or creative learning methods
You don’t need to be good at writing. You don’t need to speak perfectly. You just need to be curious about what happens when you feel safe enough to try.
Ready to join?
You are warmly invited to explore the group here:

There is no pressure to post or speak. Just enter, read, observe, and see how your voice responds.
Your French doesn’t need to be perfect. Your presence is already enough.
