Write in French

Write Your French — Beyond Intermediate

Grammar, vocabulary and guided writing to make French truly yours.

You are not a beginner anymore.

You can understand French.
You can read it.
You can follow lessons, podcasts, articles, maybe even conversations.
You know more grammar than you think.
You recognise many words.

And yet, when you try to write — or when you want to express something personal — your French may still feel limited.

You hesitate.
You translate from English.
You return to the same simple words.
You know the rule, but you don’t always know how to use it in your own sentence.

This is not a sign that you have failed.

It is the intermediate plateau.

And to move beyond it, you don’t need to start French again from the beginning.

You need to activate what you already know.

Write Your French — Beyond Intermediate will open soon.

The problem with intermediate French

At the intermediate level, you often understand much more than you can produce.

You may know the difference between imparfait and passé composé — but still hesitate when you tell a story.

You may recognise many useful words — but still use the same basic vocabulary when you write.

You may understand French sentences — but still build your own sentences too close to English.

You may have studied grammar for years — but still feel that your French is not fully available when you need it.

This is where many learners get stuck.

Not because they need more pressure.
Not because they are not serious enough.
Not because they should go back to the beginning.

But because the French they know has not yet become French they can use.

A programme to help you move beyond the plateau

Write Your French — Beyond Intermediate is a complete self-paced programme for intermediate learners who want to make French more natural, more personal, and more alive.

It is built around a simple idea:

French becomes yours when grammar and vocabulary enter your own sentences.

Inside the programme, you revisit the points that often keep intermediate learners stuck:

  • sentence structure;
  • active vocabulary;
  • past tenses;
  • useful everyday expressions;
  • nuance;
  • description;
  • opinion;
  • English-shaped French;
  • personal written expression.

But you don’t study them as isolated rules.

You practise them through short exercises, guided writing, sentence transformation, and personal texts — so that French begins to move from your notes into your own voice.

This is not another harsh grammar course

Grammar matters.

But not as something cold, abstract, or separate from what you want to say.

In this programme, grammar is here to support expression.

You don’t learn imparfait and passé composé just to complete an exercise.
You learn them so you can tell a memory, create atmosphere, and show what happened.

You don’t learn connectors just to memorise a list.
You learn them so your thoughts can become clearer and more nuanced in French.

You don’t learn vocabulary just to recognise more words.
You learn to use those words in your own sentences.

This is grammar, vocabulary and writing — together.

Not for perfection.

For use.

How the programme works

1. Understand

Each module begins with a clear lesson on one essential difficulty of intermediate French.

You revisit the rule, the structure, or the vocabulary — but always in context, with examples that show how French really works.

2. Practise

You then work with guided exercises, useful expressions, and sentence transformations.

The aim is not to do endless drills.

The aim is to notice what changes when a sentence becomes more natural, more precise, more French.

3. Write

Each module leads you into short personal writing.

You use the grammar and vocabulary in your own sentences, your own thoughts, your own memories, your own way of seeing the world.

Because that is where the real shift happens.

4. Continue inside French Writing Studio

The programme also includes 6 months inside French Writing Studio, so you can keep writing, practising, and receiving prompts after the lessons.

The programme gives you the structure.
The Studio gives you the practice.

What you’ll work on inside the programme

Module 1 — Build more natural sentences

Move beyond short, disconnected sentences.

You’ll learn how to link ideas, use simple connectors, and make your French flow more naturally.

You’ll practise structures such as:

  • parce que
  • même si
  • alors que
  • pourtant
  • ce qui me semble important, c’est…
  • d’un côté… de l’autre…

So your writing begins to feel less fragmented and more connected.

Module 2 — Activate your vocabulary

Many learners recognise words they rarely use.

In this module, you’ll learn how to turn passive vocabulary into active vocabulary.

You’ll work with useful expressions such as:

  • j’ai tendance à…
  • je me rends compte que…
  • j’ai besoin de…
  • cela me donne envie de…
  • je prends le temps de…
  • j’ai du mal à…

The goal is not to learn more and more words.

The goal is to begin using the words you already know — and to choose more precise ones when you write.

Module 3 — Tell a story in the past

This module helps you finally feel the difference between imparfait and passé composé.

Not only as a rule.

As a way of telling a story.

You’ll learn how to separate:

  • background and event;
  • atmosphere and action;
  • what was there and what happened;
  • habits and turning points.

You’ll practise telling a memory in French with more confidence and clarity.

Module 4 — Talk about yourself with more nuance

At the intermediate level, many learners can introduce themselves — but only in a simple or textbook way.

This module helps you write about yourself with more subtlety.

You’ll work on:

  • tastes;
  • habits;
  • needs;
  • difficulties;
  • preferences;
  • changes over time;
  • your relationship with French.

You’ll practise structures such as:

  • je suis quelqu’un qui…
  • j’ai toujours eu tendance à…
  • ce qui me plaît dans…, c’est…
  • j’ai besoin de…
  • depuis quelque temps…

So your French can begin to sound more adult, more precise, and more personal.

Module 5 — Say what you think

Many learners rely on je pense que because they don’t yet have enough ways to express nuance.

In this module, you’ll learn to express opinions, hesitation, agreement, disagreement and uncertainty with more flexibility.

You’ll practise structures such as:

  • il me semble que…
  • j’ai l’impression que…
  • je ne dirais pas que…, mais plutôt que…
  • je comprends cette idée, mais…
  • ce qui me gêne, c’est…
  • cela dépend de…

The aim is to help you write thoughts that feel less flat and more alive.

Module 6 — Describe with precision

This module helps you describe places, people, scenes and atmospheres with more detail.

You’ll work on:

  • sensory vocabulary;
  • adjectives;
  • prepositions of place;
  • il y a / c’est / cela donne / on voit / on entend;
  • atmosphere and concrete detail.

You’ll learn how to move beyond words like beau, intéressant, joli, and begin to make a scene visible in French.

Module 7 — Avoid direct translation from English

Sometimes a sentence is grammatically correct, but it still feels English underneath.

This module helps you notice those moments.

You’ll work on common English-shaped structures such as:

  • I miss FranceLa France me manque
  • I am excited to…J’ai hâte de…
  • I have been learning French for…J’apprends le français depuis…
  • It makes senseC’est logique / cela a du sens

You’ll learn how to reformulate without losing what you wanted to say.

Module 8 — Find your voice in French

The final module brings everything together.

You’ll write a short personal text using the grammar, vocabulary and structures practised throughout the programme.

The aim is not to write perfectly.

The aim is to write something that feels closer to what you really wanted to say.

Something clearer.
More precise.
More natural.
More yours.

Included: 6 months inside French Writing Studio

Learning a rule once is not enough.

French becomes yours through repetition, use, return, and practice.

That is why Write Your French — Beyond Intermediate includes 6 months inside French Writing Studio.

Inside the Studio, you can keep writing in French with gentle prompts and regular practice.

You can use it while you move through the programme, or after completing the main modules.

There is no pressure to do everything.

There is no “falling behind”.

You simply keep returning to French — one sentence, one text, one small step at a time.

Why writing?

Because writing gives you time.

Time to choose your words.
Time to notice your patterns.
Time to build a sentence before you need it in conversation.
Time to understand why something sounds natural — or why it does not.

Writing is not the opposite of speaking.

It is often where your French becomes available before you can use it more freely.

When you write regularly, you begin to create the structures your brain can later retrieve.

You stop only recognising French.

You begin to produce it.

This programme is for you if…

You are an intermediate learner of French.

You understand more French than you can use.

You feel stuck between knowing the rules and using them naturally.

You want grammar and vocabulary, but not in a harsh or school-like way.

You like learning through writing.

You want a clear structure, but you also want to move at your own rhythm.

You want French to become more personal, more available, and more alive.

This programme is not for you if…

You are a complete beginner.

You want only conversation classes.

You want a fast exam-preparation course.

You don’t want to write at all.

You prefer strict deadlines, pressure, or intensive live lessons.

You are looking for a quick trick rather than a steady way to build your French.

By the end of the programme, you will have practised how to…

  • build longer and more natural French sentences;
  • connect your ideas with more ease;
  • activate vocabulary you already recognise;
  • tell a story in the past with more confidence;
  • talk about yourself with more nuance;
  • express opinions beyond je pense que;
  • describe places, scenes and atmospheres more precisely;
  • notice English-shaped French;
  • reformulate your own sentences;
  • write short personal texts with more ease.

You won’t become perfect.

That is not the goal.

But your French will feel less passive, less scattered, and more available.

The feedback is not a cold correction or a complete rewriting of your French. It helps you understand your recurring patterns, choose more natural structures, activate more precise vocabulary, and see what to work on next.

The aim is not perfection. The aim is progression — from one text to the next.
